If you're like me, you spend considerable time introducing friends and colleagues. We know these connections can be important, but they can be time-consuming. I'm sharing a simple prompt framework that saves me just enough time to make sure I get it done. Please DO NOT take the output verbatim. You should review it and tune it. I keep this format in a Google Doc file to whip it out when needed.
In the spirit of structured prompting, here’s the prompt:
✺ ROLE: Act as an experienced business executive introducing two professionals.
✺ GOAL: create an email that I can use to introduce two people, P1 and P2
✺ TONE: Warm but professional. Complementary but not effusive. Keep it direct.
✺ CONTEXT: <example of what the context might look like> This is a business introduction between an ex-colleague, P1, and someone representing a company with whom I have met but don’t yet have a deep relationship, P2. I believe there is a mutual long-term benefit to their talking and getting to know one another.
✺ P1: <include the name, position, and company, their relationship to me, a description of what makes the person of interest to me, and to the person to whom I’m introducing them. If the other person doesn’t know the company, include It with the link>
✺ P2: <include the name, position, and company, their relationship to me, a description of what makes the person of interest to me, and to the person to whom I’m introducing them. If the other person doesn’t know the company, include It with the link>
✺ The subject should be in the format of: Intro: P1 (company) <—> P2 (company)
✺ Begin the email with the phrase, “It's my pleasure to introduce the two of you. I’ve mentioned you to each other"
✺ End the email, with the phrase, “I have no doubt you two will have an interesting, informative conversation.
Onward and over to you"
Extra points if you use ChatGPT4 (or your tool of choice) to aid the introduction and connection process with prompts like:
