I'm just back from a family trip to Ireland, where I had a much-needed break from the AI firehose. It was a chance to reconnect with the people closest to me and to be introduced to the profound work of John O'Donohue, the renowned Celtic poet and philosopher.
Time with family, exploring a new country, and reading O’Donohue’s "Anam Cara" made me appreciate the messy, sensory, and deeply human aspects of our existence—our imperfections, emotional depth, creative chaos, and embodied wisdom—that set us apart from digital intelligence.
These qualities aren’t flaws to fix but the essence of our humanity, grounding us in a richly textured reality (quirks, biases, emotions) that AI can never replicate. As AI evolves, it’s these uniquely human traits that will remain our greatest strengths, enabling us to lead lives that are not just efficient, but profoundly enriched and deeply alive.
This realization hit home just as news broke about the unshackled AI output from Grok. Those of us the AI space need to continue to promote ethical, constructive use of these tools.
I return energized, ready to help make AI actionable and accessible. It's grounding and clarifying to think about integrating an ancient tradition like Celtic with the current evolution of AI.
I'm reviewing my focus on:
► 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧-𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐈 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Championing AI that enhances the human experience by freeing us from routine tasks, allowing more time for meaningful, creative work.
► 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧-𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐈 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Implementing AI in ways that respect dignity, purpose, and employee well-being.
► 𝐀𝐈 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Leveraging AI to drive innovation, while embracing the messy, organic process that defines human creativity.
► 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞: Creating workplaces where AI fosters connection and meaning, keeping the human spirit vibrant.
► 𝐀𝐈 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬: Using AI as a reflection of our values, ensuring it uplifts humanity rather than eroding connection and compassion.
Onward.
I enthusiastically recommend John O'Donoue's book, Aman Cara

Curious to know what my Celtic scholar friends think. What say you, Mark Nevins?
